Training for Mission-20 has begun !

In late summer 2019, 10 women and 10 men will embark on the largest research expedition ever conducted on the human capacity to adapt to change: 4X30 DAYS -MISSION 20, directed by the French-Swiss explorer Christian Clot. It was in Jura Switzerland that the official preparation of the future team mates began on the 22nd and 23rd of September, with a first weekend of training.

A World First

The scientific ADAPTATION program was comprised of four successive, one month treks across the harshest and most hostile environments our planet has to offer.  Christian Clot, an expert in exploring such places has performed solo all four segments.  The primary goal was to study the capacity the human body and brain have to adapt when faced with demanding and stressful conditions.  Christian just returned from the fourth and last segment, in the Verkhoyansk Mountains of Siberia, one the coldest environment in the world, only topped by Antarctica.  Stinging these four treks back to back is a world first!

One step back

After I was dropped off in the frosty cold of the Verkhoyan Mounts, I got sick and vomited repeatedly from the first day. After assuming a mere intoxication, the hypothesis was reversed when no improvement was felt over the days. In an environment where calories consumption rises to 5000 or 6000, this inability to feed me properly quickly weakened me. This situation involved other errors, the most serious of which was the burn of my sleeping bag, making it unusable...

First days of the Patagonian mission

Christian Clot has begun the 2nd stage of the ADAPTATION expedition in the coldest and wettest environment in the world:  The Magellan channels of Chilean Patagonia. The Channels are considered one of the most demanding region of the globe due to the ever changing extreme weather with temperatures as low as -20 °C (-4 °F), wind speeds reaching 250 km/h (155 mph) and humidity up to 90%.

The Dasht-e-Lut Mission cut short by Iranian anti-terrorist services

After 2 weeks immersed in the Dasht-e Lut region, Christian Clot was stopped in its tracks by the Iranian authorities.  Met in the desert by the anti-terrorist services, the explorer was required to leave the area immediately.
